A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.

The Seven Sisters market has been managed unprofessionally, aggressively and destructively. Some tenant traders have already been forced to give up some of their units. Some of the members of the Market Tenant Association, have been told to leave their premises they have occupied for over a decade. A Portuguese speaking tenant's agreement was terminated and her elderly mother evicted from her mezzanine floor and passed it on to another business causing suffering of health problems through stress and humiliation. This happened just a few days after giving evidence to an inquiry about the market being under attack.
Latin Market Tenant tenant traders have also been single targeted for utilities charge increases of 100% up to 300%. There also have been nasty, personalised insults directed towards many of us and language with racial undertones and sexist expletives. Several Tenant Tenaant traders have filed legal cases to challenge the discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
Whenever these things happen is a reminder of the fact that the Developers never wanted the market as part of its development and Tenant traders were told by the Market Operator that he could make 90% of us leave straight away.

Wards Corner is marked for redevelopment by Haringey Council. Our community objected during the planning process. We and local residents also won a test case to make equality part of the decision-making process. And we also won important concessions in a section 106 planning agreement between the local council, Haringey, and the Developer. Since the test case (R (Harris) v LB Haringey), equality of opportunity and non-discrimination was supposed to be at the centre of every decision about the market. And the future of the market and its long-standing tenant traders was supposed to be protected in law under the Housing Act and by the section 106 agreement between the Council and the Developers. Thanks to our supporters, our case was heard loud and clear at the scrutiny inquiry.
We urgently need to continue negotiating to prevent the proposed evictions taking place; and keep raising our concerns about the current situation and the future of market management with TFL, Haringey Council and the Mayor of London.
The Latin Village: Pueblito Paisa is closed while most of the markets have remained open during the pandemic. We are fighting to reopen the Latin Village through positive action. The reason the Latin Village is closed is due to the public-private partnership denial of the existance of continued discrimination that has helped in turn to perpetuate racism and forestall essential works.
We do not want conflict. Many of us are former refugees and have escaped traumatic experiences and want to get on with our lives in peace. We are willing to work with stakeholders but in a collaborative way, not as victims of harassment. We need to take decisive action if necessary to end the hostility and protect the market’s future. We are doing everything we can and have even petitioned the UN. We hope we can count on you to support us. When you support us, you will be helping to preserve something special, unique and irreplaceable: not just a market, but a community; not just a community, but a Latin American experience, right here in London, that you, your friends and family can come and share with us right now – and hopefully in the future too.
